SPOT - Kitespot
Beginners: Shallow water, small waves, constant wind with hardly any gusts and a big sand area offer ideal conditions for beginners. The first step is to familiarise yourself with the equipment and the handling of the kite in a safe environment. Once the pupil manages to master the kite with confidence on land the next module is all about fun in the water. Praia Rasa offers loads of space to practice and as you get better you’ll find yourself speeding up and down the 2.7 km long beach like a pro.
Advanced: Praia Rasa / Búzios Advanced kite surfers find their playground about 500m left of our kite station: flat sections between moderate waves offer plenty of space for jumps and manoeuvres and steady conditions allow you to bring your skills to perfection. The river mouth is one of the locals’ favourite spots and ideal to practice your wave skills.
Advanced: Geriba / Búzios Geriba is an excellent wave spot in a beautiful setting. The downside: on weekends the beach gets packed with surfers and sun bathers. During the week though, when the wind is right and it’s not too busy, we can recommend it for advanced riders.
Advanced: Tucuns / Búzios A beautiful, tucked away wave spot. The conditions are similar to the neighbouring bay Geriba…just without the surfers and sunbathers. Perfect!
Advanced: Manguinhos offers decent conditions for kite surfers, yet the particularly narrow bay and dense building development makes it an extremely tricky spot, which can only be recommended to very advanced riders with excellent control. Beginners and medium experienced kite surfers should not even think about it.
Beginners/Advanced: Araruama Lagoon, Arubinha (1 hour by car from Búzios) This amazing shallow water spot is famous within the international kite surf community and has seen many a world class competition. Pros love it for its nearly boundless room for tricks and manoeuvres and beginners take advantage of the massive, unconfined sand area and the calm waters that are ideal for your first few laps on the board. |
